Hiking on Pelješac?

Absolutely—why not!

If you’re craving fresh air, beautiful views, and a bit of adventure, Pelješac has you covered. This stunning peninsula offers six scenic hiking trails, stretching across 39 kilometers of natural beauty. Four of them lead to the area’s crown jewel: the summit of Sv. Ilija above Orebić.

Rising 961 meters above sea level, Sv. Ilija (St. Elias) is the highest peak on Pelješac—and easily the most iconic hiking destination in the region. Once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with a panoramic view you’ll never forget: the islands of Korčula, Brač, Hvar, Vis, Mljet, and even the distant coast of Italy on clear days. Turn around, and you’ll spot the Neretva River and the majestic Biokovo and Mosor mountains.

Whichever trail you take, you’ll need just under three hours to reach the summit. All routes are well-marked and maintained, so you’re in for a safe and enjoyable climb.

  • The steepest path, Ruskovići (04), begins in Orebić.
  • A slightly easier route starts in Viganj (01).
  • Two more trails begin in Kučište: one from the St. Luke chapel (02) and the most popular one from the hamlet of Bilopolje (03).

Around 800 meters up, you’ll find a cozy mountain lodge—a perfect spot to rest and soak in the peaceful surroundings. From there, it’s just a bit further to the top. According to local legend, this peak was once known as Perun’s Hill, named after the Slavic god of thunder. Today, you’ll find the ruins of a 17th-century church dedicated to St. Elias.

A few tips before you go:
Bring enough water, wear proper hiking clothes and sturdy footwear, keep your phone fully charged, and most importantly—stick to the marked trails.

Your Pelješac hiking adventure is waiting. Just pick a path and go explore!
